A report regarding the use of the LonWorks technology in smart power grids (SmartGrid) appeared on the Echelon’s web pages. The report shows that 81% of all smart electricity meters installed in Europe are based on the LonWorks technology. Provided data indicates that Echelon’s PowerLine Communication technology (PLC) outclassed competing technologies and had become dominant in both smart power supply networks as well as smart street lighting control systems.
Poland and some other European countries face a choice of technology in their initial large-scale SmartGrid installations. Above mentioned report will surely draw attention to the advantages of LonWorks technology and will increase the chances for the standard to become dominant in our country. Being an experienced LonWorks technology specialist in both development of the smart street lighting control networks as well as smart power grids (SmartGrid) we see this as a great opportunity for Apanet.
